Shake it Off (Players are Gonna Play)

Shake it Off (Players are Gonna Play)

Players gonna play…
Haters gonna hate…
I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off.

Heartbreakers gonna break…
Fakers gonna fake…
I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off.

I have a feeling that the ‘Taylor Swift Leadership Method’ (TSLM) is the way to go for a lot of the situations we encounter. With a leadership culture that wants to change everything, its essential to know what you can change and what you can’t change. You can attempt to change things through prayer but there does come a time for TSLM to click in – a time to shake it off back into the hands of God. Leaders are marred with the stickiness of players, haters, heartbreakers and fakers. Their residue can cling to the leader’s soul like a spiders web on a hand.

TSLM says that players will play – that’s what they do. It’s inevitable. They’ll make friends with you, use you like a stepping-stone, consume you and then move on. We all know hundreds of them. Haters will hate. And when you tell them your dreams they’ll hate you more. It’s what they do. Joseph will tell you! Heartbreakers will promise the world, but then leave your world. Fakers just fake.

In a world of pastoral love and a world where we care too much what the haters think (many haters used to be the number one lovers of you and your vision), it’s hard to say goodbye and move on.

Yet that was what God said to Samuel when a notorious heartbreaker of God’s heart broke His heart once again.

How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your flask with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.1 Samuel 16:1

MOVE ON. TURN THE PAGE. ROLL UP THE DRAW BRIDGE. BURN THE BRIDGES. SHAKE IT OFF. It may sound a bit cruel, but it’s at the point when faith let’s go and becomes pure trust. And trust is a place that God loves to swim in. It begins at the place of letting go.

Along side believing in people and holding on, the associated skill of leadership is to know when to let go and simply ‘shake it off’.

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town! Matthew 10:14

It may be time for TSLM – A dusting off. A shaking off. A moving on.

See you on the other side,

Dave

  1. Love this message. So applicable. Really empowers people to take leadership of their situation and say no to bitterness & regret and move forward for the next step! Thanks Ps Dave!
