Why did God ask Adam to name the animals? This would seem a pointless exercise until you remind yourself of the power of names. Names have an ability to fashion, form and frame both the present and the future. It’s happened throughout your lifetime with both positive and negative outcomes. Adam was practising on the animals what Jesus would do to the nature of Simon and the state of Lazarus- speak a new name over both creating powerful outcomes. And since we’re made in the image of God, we are called to rename ourselves, others and our cities with names of faith and hope that change things forever.
